Behind the Scenes of Baby Bump

It’s the last month of the year, and a new Choices book is here! You might’ve already seen some sneak peeks of Baby Bump… Now let’s hear what the team has in store:

First off, role call... What do you do at Pixelberry and on Baby Bump?

Emi: I'm a writer and the book lead on Baby Bump! I've previously written for The Elementalists and Bloodbound, and I helped brainstorm our upcoming fantasy book, Blades of Light and Shadow!

Eric: I am a senior writer turned content lead, so now I supervise a bunch of books at once. In the past, I wrote for The Crown & The Flame, It Lives in The Woods, and I was kind of an acting consultant for books like The Elementalists and America's Most Eligible. Basically, I'm the old man that the writers come to for help, but only after I've made them carry several buckets of water up a ridiculously long flight of stone stairs.

Baby Bump is my... well, baby. I've been working on it for forever... possibly longer than an actual pregnancy.

Daniel: Hello! I’m the producer on Baby Bump!

Amanda: I'm the art producer for Baby Bump! I work with artists on getting art assets completed on time and making sure the book looks the best it can.

Alright, so... the bun is in the oven. Tell us about Baby Bump!

Emi: Baby Bump is a heartfelt story about a woman who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant after a one-night stand, but continues to pursue her dreams while making plans to be the best mother she can be!

What's the inspiration behind writing Baby Bump?

Eric: My wife. She had to continue functioning, working, and being a badass while pregnant with our daughter. I wanted to tell a story that captured that feeling of someone doing EVERYTHING while undergoing some serious physical transformations.

Emi: As someone who's not super interested in having kids, I've definitely drawn a lot from cartoons and movies. But when you think about it, having a kid is similar to adopting a puppy, so I just think about my Yorkie when I need to get those maternal feelings going.

What was your favorite part about making Baby Bump?

Emi: I adore all of the characters. When you throw them all together, that's where the magic happens. I've also learned way more about pregnancy than I ever thought I'd know.

Eric: I got to work with people I hadn't worked with before. I always love the team dynamics that develop while making a book, and this was no different.

Amanda: Collaborating with the team on making the Baby Blanket. Discussing the different patches and how they relate with the story makes it all the more interesting.

Is there a particular character you're excited for fans to meet? *wink wink*

Emi: Mr. Covington. I mean, who can resist a charming southern gentleman? Luisa, your friend and resident tough girl, is also hilarious and always down to fight. And who can forget about Boone, Mayor Dixon's loyal dog!

Daniel: Definitely Mayor Dixon. They can be a… challenge to work with, but they’re wicked smart and driven to do the best job possible.

Eric: I'm actually excited for fans to play as their main character. I think often times there's a trap of the main character being a little bit too much of a blank slate, a little bland, a little boring. But not this one -- She's got a lot of sass!

Last but not least, in 3 words, what else can fans expect to see?

Emi: World's cutest dog!

Eric: Alotofheartwarmingscenesanda baby blanket!

I wonder if Boone will steal the baby blanket for himself -- We'll have to play and see! Be sure to play Baby Bump on December 9th to see how the story plays out!
