Crimes of Passion

It's time to share the mystery story you've all been waiting for! We've given an early sneak peek at what is in store for this new book, but now let's get some inside info from the team behind the mystery:

We're dying to know... what can we expect?

Rachel:

In Crimes of Passion, you play as a private detective working a missing persons case. When it turns out to be something deadlier, you team up with an exiled prince/ss to solve the case… and in the process, grow closer.

Our players have been anticipating this mystery book for so long! Are there any characters you're thrilled for players to meet?

Rachel: There are so many great characters in this book. Honestly, the banter between everyone has been my favorite because they play off each other so well. Specifically, I can’t wait for everyone to meet Prince/ss Trystan. They come from the small country of Drakovia (think Cordonia’s dark neighbor) and have a very interesting perspective as a result.

Meagan: So many! The characters really shine in Crimes of Passion, but I have a definite soft spot for Ruby. She's a super charming combination of bookish, brave, and morbid, and she brings a little extra fun and heart to the team.

What did you enjoy the most about creating Crimes of Passion? Is there anything in particular you're excited for fans to see?

Rachel: I’m totally biased, but I think our love interest options are the hottest. Besides that, oh, I wish I could say so much about the mystery. However, that is something you’ll just have to wait and play to unravel yourself.

Meagan: We have some great new music and a lot of gorgeous art! If I had to pick, I think I'm most excited for players to experience the relationship dynamic between our main character and Trystan. It was a lot of fun to craft and I hope players come to love them as much as I do.

Onto some just-for-fun questions: What is your favorite piece of mystery media?

Rachel: I love Agatha Christie personally. And Then There Were None is one of my favorite novels. I’m going to show a nerdy side of myself here, but I love that book so much that I bought the ported Wii game based on the novel.

Meagan: There's no way I could pick a favorite. I love a long-form, genre-bending mystery like Westworld or Dark, and I'm also a sucker for true crime (shout out to all the murderino Choices players!). I also have to mention Veronica Mars, which may be responsible for my love of the mystery genre to begin with.

If you could choose any Choices character to be your partner in crime, who would it be?

Rachel: Maxwell. Hands down. We’d come up with fun codenames and hand signals to communicate who we thought was a suspect. Best of all, he'd make it fun!

Meagan: My answer is a bit of a spoiler... Let's just say there's a very, very good addition to the team a few chapters in.

Any final words you'd like to share with players?

Rachel: I know it’s been a long time coming, but this book is worth the wait. A final piece of advice? Pay attention. You never know what’s important in a mystery.

Meagan: Thank you for your enthusiasm and anticipation of this book! I hope you all enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed making it.

And thanks for tuning in everyone! We hope you're ready to play Crimes of Passion on December 22nd. As the year comes to a close, and we prepare for the next, we wish all our readers a happy holiday season from our PB family to yours. ❤️
