The Elementalists! 🎉

Our team is so excited to finally finish the series! It is bittersweet to have to choose between two beloved franchises, but don’t take my word for it.. Read our team reactions below 👇

Emi, Choices writer for 8 years and lead writer for the Choices Rewind sequel: While I would have been thrilled to write either sequel, I'm really excited to dive back into the magickal world of Penderghast after so many years away! Getting another chance to write all the wonderful characters that make up that world, it almost feels like returning home to see old friends. And of course there's something special about getting to put a button on a series that was left with a lot of questions back when it first ended. You'll have to wait a bit longer, but I can't wait to share the story we've cooked up for all of you!

Jay, Choices producer for 5 years: I am so looking forward to starting production on The Elementalists sequel! When we first talked about doing the fan favorite sequel, it was fun to hear everyone reminisce on both series, searching through our archives to find old notes and silly brainstorm messages. I was honestly happy to do either series, I just love to see everyone else theorize who would win. As someone who has jumped in on many of our complex books, like Blades and Terror Fest, because I really like puzzles, I am ready to dive into the project!

Kelly, Choices artist for 10 years, worked on book 1 and 2 of The Elementalists: I was rooting for TE to win! Yay! I think the potential for more story (and to follow through with some of the plot threads left on the table) was always with TE. Love both stories, but happy for TE and the Pend Pals to get a sequel!

Richard, Choices QA for 8 years: I was rooting for The Elementalists, I love me a magic school story. I had the honor of doing QA on those books and while each had its merits, I felt more connected to the characters in the Elementalists.

Olivia, Choices writer for 8 years: I love both series, but I know the TE team always had more story planned beyond the awesome adventures they gave us in Books 1 and 2, so I was #TeamElementalists in this contest. I'm really excited to see Emi (one of the original Elementalist writers) continue the series and take us back to Penderghast. I can't wait to read it alongside all of our players!

Tom, Choices artist for 10 years: I was rooting for Endless Summer since I contributed to the original book, and it’s one of my personal favorites in our library. But, I’m happy that The Elementalists won because it is also an incredible series, and it deserves a sequel. 🙂

Trina, Choices player support for 8 years: That's a tough one since each one holds a special place in my heart for different reasons. I have to remain frustratingly split. TBH I would have been happy either way since I'd already come to terms with both series ending, and having to repeat that news to players for years.

Anna, Choices product manager for 3 years: I’ll always be a Penderghast alum at heart and cannot WAIT for another entry in The Elementalists series!

Vince, Choices QA for 10 years: I was rooting for Endless Summer. It was a whirlwind of a ride and it was a daring choice to switch up the art style and take it in that direction, especially during the early days of Choices. I was really hoping for an extended epilogue to finish off the entire series. 🙂

Christine, Choices art producer for 4 years: I am excited that The Elementalist is going to get a sequel! I really enjoy magic books, they are so fun to work on especially with developing the look of the outfits, backgrounds and characters. I can’t wait to see what this sequel brings!

Brandon, Choices engineer for 3 years: I was more invested in our community being invested than I was in either book tbh. Both series are great, but it's really exciting to see how much our players love these two franchises.

Heather, Choices artist for 10+ years: I don’t think anyone will be surprised to hear I was rooting for TE, but I love how many fans voted to bring it back. I loved the amazing art that Kelly created for both book 1 and 2, and her vision for the world. I loved the characters, and I’ve often wished we could go back to the world of Penderghast and tell more stories there. I have so many questions. What’s it like to suddenly have a twin you’d never known about. Or to find you have magical powers. I can’t wait to hear what happens next.

Erin, Choices QA for 9 years: Oh, wonderful! I worked on all of those books and I was rooting for The Elementalists, since it didn’t get a proper ending, while Endless Summer got three. So that’s my thoughts about it!

Michelle, Choices general manager for 1 year: I’m excited to see what Emi cooks up and based on the chatter on social media, I think the correct series won since we were not able to finish the series originally. I really want to dig into why it never happened... But personally, I love a good sci-fi mystery like Endless Summer, so I was rooting for a come-from-behind victory.
