You've had questions this week about the future of Choices and it's time to tell you a little more about where things stand. The team changes you've seen these past few weeks were hard. They were an outcome we worked to avoid, and we won't dress it up as something other than what it was. But part of stewarding a game that's been alive for ten years means facing difficult realities, and we'd rather face them honestly with you than around you.
Before we talk about what's coming, it's worth understanding what's been shaping our decisions. Choices was built on a codebase that's now a decade old, and the tech that powers it was designed for a different era of game development. As much as we've wanted to bring you richer storytelling experiences, deeper character moments, more immersive worlds, the kind of interactivity you've been asking for, our current architecture significantly limits what's possible. We're not saying this as an excuse. It's a reality we've been navigating behind the scenes for a long time, and one that's only become harder to work around as the years have passed. That reality forced us to ask some hard questions about where Choices goes from here. When the foundation of a game limits what you can build, it eventually shapes everything around it, including the team built to support it. We had to make decisions about what this project looks like going forward, and those decisions are part of what led to last week's changes.
We've been building toward something that can actually deliver what the old tech couldn't, and we're getting close to being able to show you. We're not ready to pull the curtain back today, but we wanted you to know that the stories you've loved, the characters and worlds and choices that have meant something to you, aren't going away. They're growing into something new. In the near term, you'll notice we're adjusting our release cadence and book length for Choices.
Here is our updated release calendar:
Scream for Me — April 15, 5 chapters
Close Contact — May 6, 8 chapters
Breaking Ice — May 20, 6 chapters
Their Omega — We are looking into exciting new formats we can bring this story to life in and will share when we have updates
We want to be transparent about why: our writing team has changed, and we'd rather slow down and maintain the quality of the storytelling you've come to expect than push a pace that doesn't serve the work. If anything, that commitment to writer-driven storytelling is something we feel strongly about protecting. You'll also start to see some new faces as we continue to bring in people who are excited about what Choices can become.
We know change is hard, especially when it involves people you've come to know through their work. We don't take your trust lightly, and we won't stop doing all we can to earn it. More soon, and thank you for your love and support over the years.
