Guinevere

Your knight in shining armor has arrived! We can’t wait for everyone to dive into Guinevere, so we reached out to our book team for a small sneak peek:

Can you tell us a little bit about Guinevere?

Olivia: In this story, you play as Princess Guinevere, newly betrothed to the famous king (or queen) of Camelot. But you have a secret, one that warns you of great danger coming for Camelot, your betrothed, and your most loyal knight…
Jeffrey: The art and the outfits are going to be, as the nobles say, exquisite.

Katie: The angst is palpable in this one.

Kelly: It's only your best opportunity to live out one of the most famous love triangles in literature. A sweet and noble ruler on one hand; a brooding, duty-bound knight on the other -- I still don't know who to choose at this point.

Amanda: An exciting fantastical adventure where players can become part of a different telling of the story of Guinevere.

We can’t wait to live out our Arthurian dreams! What characters are you excited for fans to meet? Any gorgeous knights we should watch out for?

Olivia: I can't wait for people to meet the king's (or queen's) elusive half-sister, Morgana. Does she like you? No. Does she have some dark secrets? Maybe. Do I love her anyway? Yes.

Jeffrey: You're going to meet two iconic figures, both in poise and beauty, in Arthur and Lancelot. But you're also going to meet a bunch of the Knights of the Round Table! We've put a fun spin on their personalities and visual styles. It's fun to see how they interact as they're in different stages of their knighting careers.

Amanda: I'm excited for our players to meet all the noble knights alongside the King/Queen. They are unique in personality and armor!

Katie: Lancelot is a dreamboat, I adore them and their duty. However, I'm most thrilled about the Knights of the Round Table, particularly a special grumpy one.

We do love a good grumpy character! What makes Guinevere different from other royalty-themed books Choices has made in the past?

Olivia: In addition to the incredible outfits and royal influence you've seen in other series, this is a world of magic, chivalry, and honor. You can expect some fantastical appearances from important figures in the legends!

Jeffrey: Swords. Need I say more?

Katie: Camelot is gorgeous! I want to step into all of our backgrounds.

Amanda: The world-building of Camelot was really fun! Our backgrounds throughout this kingdom really helped balance the reality and fantasy of this genre.

Kelly: With Guinevere, we did our best to create a setting, with our backgrounds, outfits, and music, that feels as though you're stepping into a medieval tale.

That sounds amazing! What was your favorite part about putting your own spin on the historical stories of King Arthur?

Olivia: This book has the hot lady knight romance that I've always wanted to see in chivalric stories (depending on your personal choice of knightly love interest, of course)!

Jeffrey: I enjoyed diving into Arthurian lore and learning how the story, themes, and characters evolved. And because King Arthur is among the most remixed stories ever created, there's a sense of belonging to a great storytelling tradition as we add in our own unique aspects.

Kelly: My favorite part was researching many different time periods to create the look for our outfits and we were able to draw upon many different centuries of costuming. While this means we are not completely historically accurate, we did try to create a "fantasy medieval" world of our own.

Amanda: I think researching the fashion/style of our characters based off of their backstories was really enjoyable and a great challenge. We had to make sure that our characters looked unique enough, whether it be through colors, silhouettes, or patterns, etc.

If you could be the ruler of any imaginary land, what would it be, and why?

Olivia: I would rule a tiny pocket dimension separated from the normal time stream, so I could read as much as I want while still, y'know, having time for the rest of my life.

Jeffrey: I know that all powerful cult monarchies are bad... BUT... haven't you ever wondered how good it'd feel to be surrounded by minions shouting "Yes, King!" at every half-baked shower thought you come up with? For a time, I'd want to rule the Sycophantic Paradise Kingdom of Jeffrey until I inevitably run it into the ground by establishing an entire feudal hierarchy made up of cats and having to flee for my life from revolutionaries. It will be glorious and therapeutic.

Kelly: I'd probably pick Cordonia, since it's the place to be in our Choices multiverse, haha. I too want to fulfill my dreams of large, queenly hats and too many corgis.

Amanda: For all my Lord of the Rings fans, I would want to be the ruler of Rivendell; the land is beautiful and everyone is so highly trained for battle!

Katie: This is a tough one, I've never had a strong desire to rule a location. Probably Narnia to be honest, I love how freedom is emphasized there and ruling isn't so much "ruling". Plus, I would love to be friends with some beavers! They seem so kind

So much love for Mr. and Mrs. Beaver! 10/10 would sit and have afternoon tea with them. Thank you to everyone for answering our most pressing Guinevere questions. And thank you, Choices Community member, for taking the time to read our blogs! We look forward to Guinevere’s launch.

Love, The Choices Community Team <3
